Produce at Wild Child Farm is produced “beyond organic.” We never use pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. Most of the compost we use to add nutrients and nitrogen to our soil is produced right on the farm! Soil health is of primary concern to the farm, and healthy soil makes healthy food.
All of the animals on Wild Child Farm serve multiple purposes. Our heritage breed pigs are no exception. The pigs on the farm eat all excess food waste, from imperfect produce to compost from local schools. We use them to root up hard packed soil; adding fertility and creating perfect areas for us to plant vegetables and herbs. Our chickens get to be chickens. They live outside, eat insects forage grass, flowers and are fed fermented organic food. Our heritage breeds live longer, fuller lives than USDA organic chickens, which are almost always bred to grow at an unhealthy rate. On processing days, we honor their lives with ceremony. Our chicken is not your run of the mill chicken. You can taste the difference!
